Facing the Fraud: The Story Behind My First Step

First Post Behind the Scenes of Writing (Re)wired for Wealth

Hi, and welcome to Wealth and Wisdom. My name is Jordan Pendleton. If you are seeing this, probably because you’ve subscribed to my Substack or you’re on my mailing list and you read the first part of my book which came out last week, which was titled something along the lines of “face facts, I’m a fraud”.

As I mentioned in the intro email, I’m going to be releasing parts of my book, so that will be part of my book to some degree.

God also told me to share the journey. And that’s the part that I feel a little bit more uncomfortable with because the writing part is behind the scenes. I can do that in my own time. I can edit it. I can make it really good. But sharing the journey is a little bit messier, and I’m not always good with messy and showing what’s actually going on. It feels a little bit vulnerable and scary.

So this is my first of those posts of releasing part of the book and then filling you guys in on what was going on within me or behind the scenes to getting that out in the world. And first things is you know my mother-in-law was like that’s amazing you got the first part of your book out! But truthfully, I’ve had it written for at least six months I’ve had about 40 pages written for almost six months and just been sitting on it and felt really stuck.

I got to this point and then it did, it felt like there was this missing part of releasing it as I go and then sharing more of the behind-the-scenes as I go as well. That’s what I feel like God called me to do. So here we are. So yeah.

Getting to actually releasing that first part of the book, ironically, or maybe not, the biggest obstacle I had to overcome was this feeling of being a fraud again. And that’s not an uncommon feeling for me in my past of feeling. I don’t know if you want to call it imposter syndrome, or I just like, “who am I to do this?”

And... that piece of like the fraud, this story that I’ve continued to tell myself that really keeps me kind of stuck or holding things back, is especially in the line of work that I’ve chosen. A lot of times, you know, people follow financial professionals for these equations to get to being a millionaire, and give me the baby steps and all this stuff. And my work couldn’t be farther from that.

And sometimes I have big insecurity around I’m not “there yet” I’m not a millionaire I’m not a you know, six, seven, eight figure earner, and all this stuff.

And so in my mind, that’s why people would follow me is because I have these amazing external results, and that I have this perfect formula that if you just follow these five baby steps or these steps, then you’ll be, you’ll be a millionaire just like me.

And funny enough, that is exactly what got me so stuck for so long. And got me in so much debt is this: give me the answers, tell me how to do it, and what to do. And I think we’re so desperate for that sometimes, especially if you have financial pain or financial struggle or struggle in your relationship with money. Like we just want somebody to give us the answers. And my work that I’ve developed and that’s really worked for me is that there’s not like this perfect set of steps.

Like there’s principles, I would say that work, but a lot of why it doesn’t work for a lot of people is that they don’t know themselves, they don’t know their values, they don’t know their, you know, what they’re really aiming for or what aligns with their life and what God’s called you to do.

And that’s where it all starts and when I really like had to put when I decided to put this out I had to face that story of like oh am I a fraud because I don’t have all these like amazing financial external results and come to terms with that and realize a yes I have a much much better relationship with money I’m still a work in though and being okay with that being okay that I’m not “There yet”.

I don’t even know what “there” is. But where I do know I stand that I didn’t before is that I have so much more peace and freedom around money. Because if you read that intro post, shame insecurity, and just feeling like never enough were my drivers for so so so long. And that led to a lot of external results, one of them being dead

Or I was on the other end of the pendulum for a while too of having a lot of money and being completely unfulfilled so now where I do stand that I the ground that I know that I take in this is helping people actually find freedom and release that shame and I know what that journey is like releasing the shame and actually stepping into who you are and what you’re called to and finding peace and freedom around money without having to be a millionaire or billionaire.

I believe that the best results and the only way we’re going to “get there” is by being and embracing the peace and the freedom that’s available to us right now - not based on our circumstances so that you know kind of to come back around like facing that I had to face that like am I a fraud question and actually answer that question to get that first post out into the world, which was very scary.

But also very freeing to know what this is. And don’t follow this or don’t follow me if you just want to become a millionaire. I’m not your girl. I’m not your girl if you just want to be a six, seven, eight figure earner. I’m your girl. If you want to find peace and freedom and release a lot of that shame and insecurity and never enoughness, that’s what I’m here for.

And I know that through that, we get to live our best lives and the lives that we were actually created for. Because shame and insecurity keep us bound.

So that was, yeah, a lot of my little internal process getting there. And I have quite a bit more of the book written that I’m excited as I comb through it. It’s been oddly a healing process so far of really unraveling

the story and just see how over especially the last 10 years now of how much of like these little bits and pieces that made no sense in the time are now kind of coming together and I’m seeing as I write this and as I release this and as I do this process, so much more of like why certain things had to happen.

Sometimes we don’t get the perspective until we’re on the other side. So continue following my journey. I’ll release another part, little chapter or sub chapter. I don’t know like the structure or the format quite yet of like what the book’s gonna be like, but that’s part of the journey. join along, follow my sub stack, free or paid subscriber. Love to have you along for the journey. Just super grateful you’re here and until next time.
